iPhone
First post in awhile since I basically grew bored of blogging and had nothing worthwhile to post... until today. I, along side my cofounder Greg Yardley, launched our first version of Pinch Media. Check it out at pinchmedia.com.

This launch is our initial analytics package for iPhone developers but we will be launching an advertising platform for native iPhone apps soon enough. Anyway here's a bunch of links about the launch:

Finished the endless set on Rock Band tonight.

It's going to be an amazing year for my post-rock addiction. First off I am so excited for April when Explosions in the Sky will be coming to NYC. I've been waiting for the chance to see these guys live for awhile now and the second tickets went on sale in December I had to get mine. Now just comes the hard part of waiting.

Looking around for other shows to go to last night I found that God is an Astronaut will be playing at Maxwell's in Hoboken in March. I just recently discovered this band and was blown away with how good they are and to see them at Maxwell's will be just amazing. I just saw the Fiery Furnaces there this week and while it is a small venue I feel much more closer and connected to the band then when I saw them at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. Getting back to post-rock here's an amazing video from God is an Astronaut.

Another show that I found last night which has me really excited is A Silver Mt. Zion playing at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in May. This should be an absolutely amazing show. They're playing the following night at the Bowery Ballroom so I haven't decided which show I want to go to yet.

Finally while not truly post-rock in my opinion but close enough, M83 will be playing at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in June. There's a ways to go before this show but it's coming.

The one question I kept getting all day was, how's the battery on the iPhone? Well I left it drain completely today to see how long it would last. When I got home I just left the phone play music and movies until it died.

One of the nice features found on the phone is a timer since your last full charge. It lists your usage time, all the time the screen is unlocked and in use, and the standby time which is listed in the manual as the amount of time the phone has been in standby mode (locked but turned on). Now I think the standby time is actually reporting the entire time since the last charge. If you look at the stats I have below, the standby time increases even though it was active and playing video the whole time.

As the phone's battery ran down I received an on screen warning at 20%, 15% and 5%. Read on for the stats at each interval.

It was too tempting not to get. I really love new gadgets and being the consumer whore I am, I picked one up this morning. I waited a couple hours last night at an AT&T store after work but they sold out there. The Apple stores however had a shit load. There was almost no line at the SoHo Apple store when I went in and they had quite a few demo units to play with.

I played with it quite a bit today and it's just fun to use. We'll have to see if the novelty wears off. Even though this thing is lots of fun to play with, I have some complaints.

General Scrabbleship Blog Entry
Being the good little consumer whore I am, I picked up Windows Vista on launch day. I didn't install it right away because I wanted backup some files from my Windows XP install since I was replacing that hard drive completely but now I've been running Vista for long enough to get a good feel for it.

Not much has changed between XP and Vista but the most notable change is the new glass like interface. I gotta say I'm really loving the new look which is a massive improvement from XP's "Fisher Price" default theme. I've been running custom styles on XP for a long time but I'm still impressed with this new Aero style with it's use of transparency.

Code
A big complaint of moving over to an AJAX navigation was that it broke the back and forward buttons in the browser. Well not anymore. Tonight I added in Really Simple History into garbagewater and merged over to scrabbleship.

It seems to be working quite well in firefox but it also looks to be a little qwirky in ie. I'll have to see if I can improve it at all later.

Code
I decided to merge the latest garbagewater code into scrabbleship a few days ago and today I reached the point where I believe everything should be working. The reason for doing so was to patch a few security holes I found while updating garbagewater and also just use scrabbleship as a test bed for new code. Also it gives me a place to announce new features I added in.

So as long as I stay on top of it, I will be merging any changes I make to garbagewater to here as often as I make changes to the code. The beta garbagewater site, http://beta.garbagewater.com, will be updated as well with the latest code.

However scrabbleship does differ a bit from garbagewater in terms of features. I have a few more modules available here which I had to AJAXify to work with the new code. So if you do find anything that's broken, let me know. I used firefox while developing so that should be pretty solid but I only tested briefly on ie 6. I haven't touched ie 7 yet.

World of Warcraft

I know I haven't posted here in awhile but I figured this was worthy of a post. I picked up a Wraith Blade tonight in WoW. Not to sound like too much of a geek but it is the uber pwnage.

Recently I've been running a music bot on my WoW guild's ventrilo server (voice chat) by setting my recording input to what I hear and putting my massive music collection on random. I took it to a new level however when I installed the song requester plugin for Winamp. This allowed the listeners to request what songs they would like to hear next. The interface can be seen here: http://agemo.kicks-ass.org if Winamp is currently running.

What I decided to do tonight is to create a new last.fm profile for all the music that the bot plays. I was previously scrobbing to my own account and it was getting flooded pretty fast. So if you're curious about what's being played check out the profile or last.fm charts below.

Yes I know it's been a long time since my last post but that's partially because I was unemployed for a month and doing nothing worthy of posting and also because I'm frickin' lazy and blogging didn't interest me for awhile. Well I'm all moved into my new place in Jersey City and I finally have something to blog about.

Allen and I took a trip out to Coney Island today to just check it out and also see part of the Siren Music Festival. One of my new co-workers, Alexei, lives out there and showed us around a bit. I took my camera around and took a few pictures. So I finally have a new photo album up for you guys to browse.

Coney Island We got to see She Wants Revenge on the main stage which was pretty cool. I snagged a video on my camera which turned out pretty shitty but if you want to watch a few seconds of She Wants Revenge playing Because of These Things then here you go. I really enjoyed the She Wants Revenge set.

We didn't stick around to watch any other bands since Allen and I still wanted to explore Coney Island a bit more and we were sick of standing around.

Coney Island
The beach was nice but it was a little strange because there were no waves at all. It was seriously the calmest beach I was ever on with no waves and no wind. The day started out overcast and it rained a bit but it cleared up later in the day and turned out to be quite a plesent day.

Coney Island

The whole day was quite enjoyable and I have to thank Alexei for showing us around. Check out the rest of my pictures in the Coney Island photo album. Hopefully I'll have more pictures from NYC soon. For now I'm gonna go watch Requiem For a Dream again and match locations to what I visited today.

Small video I made today from our griefing on Emeriss last night. I suggest downloading one of the version below since the Google Video is really shitty quality.

Well I tried but failed to install OSX86 on my Averatec 2155, succeeded in installing Ubuntu Linux on it, but today I decided to try out the new Windows Vista Beta 2.

The install was flawless albeit quite long. And when I say quite long I mean I think I died twice waiting for it to copy all the files over. In the end though it worked just fine and I have pictures of the whole install process for you. I'll have to use it for a bit before I can give it a solid review.
